Fire Cake
This afternoon, my friend Ian and I were walking down the street, and somehow he decided it would be cool to have a cake with built-in flamethrowers. In turn, I suggested that we could plumb propane through it with licorice.
So we went to our workshop and did it.
The picture of me assembling the test harness shows how we did it. Basically we just modified one of our fire cannon assemblies (a 5-lb propane cylinder feeding to an expansion tank) to supply the cake plumbing instead. Initial tests indicated that we could run full tank pressure through a licorice nozzle. We attached the licorice to the propane feed with hose barbs (1/4 inch worked nicely for Jumbo size Red Vines) and fed it through the cooked cake as we assembled the layers.
It worked surprisingly well. The cake did taste somewhat of propane, though.
